I wanted to find out more about this band, but this was long before the internet came about.

I loved the album, with an eclectic mix of moody guitar-based numbers and full-on dance songs (like the classic 'Blue Monday'). I did not know at the time, but Substance was a 'best of' album, and I was coming to the New Order table very late. So I decided to go to the Northpark Mall (Marion, Indiana), zip into Musicland, and pick up the cd, called Substance. It is a very dancey, synthy-type song, but with lots of guitar and great vocals as well. After a few viewings I started paying attention to the actual song, and I found that I loved it as well. I thought it was brilliant, so I would watch for it all of the time. The video had me hooked it was delightfully quirky, kind of random, with big styrofoam people beating each other and rolling around in some sort of styro-arena, with some weeble-wobble styrofoam woman doing sign language.

One day when I was a freshman in high school I was watching MTV with my brother, and we saw a video called 'True Faith' by some band named New Order. (Cool it Now!) But one clue to my future evolution was that I always liked the sort of 'new wave' pop: Tears for Fears, OMD, Simple Minds, etc. I was in the New Edition fan club, after all.
